Yes. Campervans, motorhomes, and trucks with foreign plates require Turkish Compulsory Traffic Insurance (MTPL). Campervans are priced in the truck category due to their size and weight classification under Turkish insurance regulations.

Campervan and truck Turkish MTPL costs: 1 month €117 / 4,500 TL, 3 months €143 / 5,500 TL, 6 months €195 / 7,500 TL, 12 months €390 / 15,000 TL.

Turkey has many excellent wild camping spots and is popular with overland travellers. Your MTPL policy covers you while driving across the entire country. Always check local regulations for specific areas.

It depends on your insurer. Check your Green Card certificate — if TR (Turkey) is listed, you may be covered. Many European motorhome policies exclude Turkey or require an additional premium. If unsure, our policy gives you guaranteed cover.

The Kapıkule crossing near Edirne (from Bulgaria/Europe) is the most popular for overlanders. The Hamzabeyli and Dereköy crossings are less busy. From Georgia, the Sarpi crossing handles campervans well.

Foreign vehicles can stay in Turkey for up to 6 months per calendar year. Your vehicle is recorded in your passport on entry. Ensure your Turkish MTPL insurance covers your full intended stay.
