Turkish MTPL insurance for foreign-plated vehicles must be renewed before it expires. Driving with an expired policy is illegal in Turkey and can result in fines and difficulties at border crossings. Renewal is as straightforward as the initial purchase — contact us on WhatsApp and we will have your new policy issued within 30 minutes.
When to renew your Turkish car insurance
Renew your Turkish MTPL policy before it expires — not after. The renewal creates a new policy with a fresh validity period. There is no automatic renewal for foreign-plated vehicle policies.
The best practice is to renew at least 24–48 hours before your current policy expires. This gives time for any questions or payment processing, and ensures there is no gap in cover. A gap — even of one day — means you are driving uninsured, which is a fineable offence in Turkey.
If you are planning to exit Turkey before your policy expires and re-enter later, you can purchase a new policy with a start date that matches your planned re-entry date rather than renewing immediately.
Renewal process
Renewing your Turkish MTPL insurance is exactly the same process as the initial purchase:
- Contact us on WhatsApp — tell us you want to renew and provide your vehicle plate number.
- Confirm your details — we retrieve your previous policy details. You just need to confirm the new start date and duration.
- Make payment — same payment options as before: card, bank transfer, or crypto.
- Receive your new policy — delivered to your WhatsApp within 30 minutes.
The new policy can start the day after your current policy expires, or on any date in the future. We recommend setting the start date to the day after your current policy's end date to maintain continuous cover.
What if my policy has already expired?
If you have been driving with an expired policy — even unintentionally — the priority is to get a new policy issued immediately. Contact us and we will issue a new policy as quickly as possible.
Do not attempt to backdate the policy start date to cover the period of expiry — this constitutes insurance fraud and is illegal. The new policy will be issued from the current date forward.
If you are stopped by Turkish police with an expired policy, you will receive a fine. The amount varies depending on how long the policy has been expired and the officer's discretion. Present your new policy as soon as it is issued to demonstrate you have rectified the situation.
If you are attempting to exit Turkey and your policy has expired, Turkish customs may note the expired policy in their records. This can cause complications at future border crossings. It is better to renew before expiry to avoid this entirely.
WhatsApp renewal reminders
We send WhatsApp renewal reminders to all our customers 14 days before their policy expiry date. When you receive the reminder, you can simply reply and we will begin the renewal process.
You can opt out of reminders at any time — just let us know. But most customers find the reminder useful, particularly for longer-stay policies where the expiry date can creep up unexpectedly.
For drivers who make regular visits to Turkey — particularly Georgian and Russian drivers who make multiple trips per year — we maintain your details on file, making each renewal a quick one-message process.
